Academic Programme

FOUNDATION PHASE (GRADE 8 & 9)

The grade 8 & 9 programme, now reffered to as Foundation phase are the formative years where the course is well rounded, exposing students to a variety of subjects with particular emphasis on Mathematics, Science and English Language. This ensures that the students have adequate grounding to comfortably manage the IGCSE (grade 10 & 11 phase).

 

The eight learning areas in Foundation phase are:

 

  • English as a First Language (Home Language)
  • Afrikaans as a Second Language
  • Business Studies
  • Geography
  • Mathematics
  • Chemistry
  • Physics
  • Biology
  • Literature

IGCSE PHASE (GRADE 10 & 11)

In the grade 10 & 11 phases now reffered to as IGCSE 1 (Core) and IGCSE 2 (Extended). On the completion of IGCSE core and extended it is equated by SAQA as the equivalent of Grade 11.

 

Subject aselection is introduced according to the interest, needs and abilities of pupils. Pupils may select according to University Entrance Requirements; and/or discuss this further with one of our in-house subject advisors.

 

In addition to English as a First Language (Home Language), Afrikaans as a Second Langauge, combinations of the following subjects are offered; subject clash list available from the adminastration office.

 

  • Biology
  • Business Studies
  • Chemistry
  • Commerce (Senior Certificate Subject Only)
  • English Literature
  • Geography
  • History
  • Physics
  • Mathematics

AS LEVEL (GRADE 12)

In the grade 12 phase, reffered to as AS level. AS levels are the 12th year of schooling and are recognised by the South-African Matriculation Board as the equivalent of a Senior Certificate (NQF4), subjects passed at Higher Grade, or under the new NSC system 7, 6, 5 or 4 pass which is a necessary requirement for University Entrance (Matric with Endorsement).

An explanation to the above:

The point score system in some Universities work according to the actual % obtained by the student per subject.

  • The APS (admission point score) system allocates point values to the level of achievement obtained for your matric subject.
